I’m joined on this episode by Hillary and Anna Shakespeare, who return to the show after our conversation two years ago about their debut film Soundtrack to Sixteen. This time, they’re back to discuss their bold new project Much Ado, and they’re joined by actor Johnny Lucas, who plays Benedick in the film.

Our conversation explores the filmmaking process, the creative challenges and rewards of using original Shakespearean dialogue in a modern setting, and how the language still resonates powerfully with contemporary audiences. Johnny shares insight into stepping into such an iconic role and bringing Benedick to life in a fresh yet respectful way.

We also talk about the journey from their debut feature to this new adaptation, and how Much Ado balances tradition with innovation. The film will be screened at Genesis Cinema in Bethnal Green on April 1st as part of the London Independent Film Festival.

A thoughtful, engaging chat about creativity, adaptation, and keeping Shakespeare alive on screen.
