Asia’h Epperson is a magnetic talent whose career spans music, television, and stage, and she’s proving that resilience and determination are as much a part of her story as her talent. In our recent interview, she opened up about her journey from small-town Missouri to starring roles on hit television series, the highs and lows of her musical career, and the adventures that fuel her outside of work.

A Breakout Role in Greenleaf

Asia’h made a stunning return to OWN’s Greenleaf for Season 3, the mega-hit series executive produced by Oprah Winfrey. The show dives into the scandalous secrets and rivalries within the sprawling Memphis megachurch led by the Greenleaf family, and Asia’h’s character, Tasha Skanks, is central to the drama.

Tasha, the wife of Basie Skanks (Jason Dirden) and a pastor of the rival Triumph church, is a thorn in the side of both Kerissa Greenleaf (Kim Hawthorne) and Lady Mae (Lynn Whitfield). In the new season, Tasha finds herself in a perilous position, navigating loyalty, danger, and family rivalries that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Asia’h spoke about the challenge of playing a character who is strong, strategic, and morally complex, and how she loves finding the emotional truth beneath Tasha’s bold exterior.

Portraying Kim Ward in The Bobby Brown Story

September also saw Asia’h starring in BET’s The Bobby Brown Story, a continuation of the record-breaking New Edition Story. Asia’h plays Kim Ward, Bobby Brown’s high school sweetheart and long-term on-and-off love interest. Their roller-coaster relationship, ending in 1992 amidst personal and public turmoil, provides a rich, emotional canvas for Asia’h to explore.

Working on the biopic allowed her to dive into real-life drama while honoring the people and events behind it. She described the role as “a deep emotional journey, balancing love, loyalty, and heartbreak.”

From Music to Acting: A Story of Resilience

Asia’h’s path to success began in small-town Missouri, where she started writing music at the age of six. Singing became her refuge and joy, whether at school, church, or home. After winning a regional talent competition in high school, she moved to Atlanta to pursue her musical dreams.

Her big break came on American Idol Season 7, where she became a finalist and gained the attention of DefJam, working with iconic producers Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and L.A. Reid. She also joined the original cast of the musical Hair Show alongside Chaka Khan.

But just weeks before her first major musical showcase, a devastating car accident left her with multiple broken bones and her mouth wired shut, putting her music career on hold.

During her recovery, she met a manager who guided her toward acting. Guest roles on TNT’s Murder in the First led to more opportunities, culminating in her breakout role on Greenleaf. Despite the detour, music remains a central part of her life, with a love for R&B, Soul, and even Country, reflecting her Missouri roots.

Life Outside the Spotlight

Asia’h credits her father, a professional bodybuilder, for instilling a love of health and fitness. She’s adventurous—hiking, jet skiing, climbing, and even bungee jumping—and a firm believer in wellness, holding a license as a massage therapist. Travel is another passion, with recent adventures including a full month in Bali.

For Asia’h, maintaining physical and mental balance is key to performing at her best, both on screen and off.

A Rising Star With Heart

Our conversation with Asia’h Epperson revealed not only a talented actress and singer, but also a resilient, adventurous, and thoughtful human being. From the stage to television screens, from Missouri to the world, her journey is a story of determination, adaptability, and passion.

Whether she’s navigating the drama of Greenleaf, portraying real-life figures in The Bobby Brown Story, or sharing her love of music and fitness, Asia’h continues to captivate audiences and inspire with her talent and perseverance.
