At just 16, filmmaker Molly Manning-Walker experienced a sexual assault that changed her life—and ultimately inspired her to create her directorial debut short film, GOOD THANKS, YOU?. The live-action short tackles a deeply personal and urgent subject, encouraging open dialogue about sexual assault and the journey to reclaim one’s voice.
Starring rising UK actors Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy) and Michael Ward (2020 BAFTA EE Rising Star Award), the film tells the story of Amy, who is left voiceless and trapped after an attack, forced to confront her trauma to protect what matters most.
Molly, a London-based director and cinematographer and graduate of the NFTS, has already earned recognition for her cinematography work, including her graduation film November 1st, which won Bronze at the Student Academy Awards and earned two Camerimage nominations. Her filmmaking approach prioritizes female-led teams, with GOOD THANKS, YOU? seeing 90% of behind-the-camera roles occupied by women.
The short film has been officially selected or competed at over 20 international film festivals, including Cannes Critics’ Week, Palm Springs ShortFest, Encounters Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, and Raindance, where it was nominated for Best UK Short Film. It continues to screen at prestigious festivals like Bogoshorts (Oscar-qualifying), 16 Days 16 Films, African Diaspora International Film Festival, and Leeds International Film Festival, supported by the creator-focused social platform VERO.
Molly Manning-Walker’s courage and artistry make GOOD THANKS, YOU? not just a film, but a movement—showing the power of storytelling to heal, empower, and spark essential conversations.
